Abortion's spiritual power is its perfect violation of ALL the commandments“. First of all, most abortions are the result of sins against the SIXTH and NINTH Commandments (adultery/fornication/lust). Abortion is certainly a sin against the FIFTH Commandment prohibiting murder. Likewise, it violates the THIRD Commandment because the vast majority of babies are killed on Saturdays (the Sabbath). Abortion is also a reversal of the FOURTH Commandment where the father and mother “dishonor” the child in the most heinous way and curse the holiness of God (SECOND Commandment) which is manifested in the only creature mad in His “image and likeness”. As a false religion, abortion is a violation of the FIRST Commandment forbidding the worship of any other gods but the Lord, and this religion is undoubtedly fed through a highly sophisticated system of falsehoods and deceits (EIGHTH Commandment) which lead women into abortion chambers. Furthermore, abortion literally steals (SEVENTH Commandment) both our personal and national futures by depriving us of children. Finally, the TENTH Commandment (coveting our neighbor's goods) is about the capital sin of greed, the very thing that drives so many abortionists to do the killing work.

Abortion is like a spiritual vortex of sin pulling people into it. Even the Church can be compromised by this evil. Most of the sins listed are sins of commission, but the Church's sins are general sins of 'omission' – the terrible silence...

All of this points out that abortion is a spiritual power that negates God's plan for love, life, and family. Nothing we ever write at LifeNews.com can ever compare to the beautiful story of the birth of Jesus.

The story has all of the elements of a crisis pregnancy situation that our friends at pregnancy centers see every day. A young mother, hopeful about her future but unsure what impact an unplanned pregnancy will have on it. A father – who isn’t quite ready to become one — tries to lead a couple who plan to marry but don’t believe they have the resources or capacity to care for a child they never expected. Worried about someone who would rather have the baby killed, they forge ahead.

In this trying time for our nation and world, with the promotion of abortion reaching historic proportions here in the United States and across the world, the uplifting story of Jesus brings us real hope for the future and an assurance that God has a plan.

Last year, we presented the story from the perspective of Luke, the doctor. This year, the disciple Matthew provides his insight. As a faithful Jew before becoming a Christian, Matthew is concerned about the proofs and prophecies behind Jesus’ birth.

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son

This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

The Magi Visit the Messiah

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:

“‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

The Escape to Egypt

When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:

“A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”

The Return to Nazareth

After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”

So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee, and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene.

Unintended Pregnancy

According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI) at least half of all American women will experience an unintended pregnancy by age 45, and, at current rates, about one third will have had an abortion. If we dig a little deeper we discover that 37% of women obtaining abortions identify as Protestant and 28% as Catholic. In other words, 65% of women obtaining abortions identify themselves as Christians. It appears that if Christians stop having abortions, Planned Parenthood would be facing bankruptcy. As I think about these numbers, I cannot help but wonder how effectively we as Christians are engaging the culture for Christ's sake?

Never Married, Not Cohabiting

AGI continues to report that women who have never married and are not cohabiting account for 45% of all abortions and about 61% of abortions are obtained by women who have one or more children. Could it be true that the men and women in our congregations do not care how much we preach because they cannot see how much we care? Could James 2:16 describe the Church today? In my opinion, until the quality of life for women and children is improved by the practical applications of unconditional love, many woman will continue to be attracted to the false sense of security abortion provides.

Reasons Women Give For Having An Abortion

Again, according to AGI, the reasons women give for having an abortion (i.e., deliberately terminating the life of the child they are carrying in their womb), underscore their understanding of the responsibilities of parenthood and family life. 75% of women cite concern for or responsibility to other individuals, the same women go on to say they cannot afford a child and that having a baby would interfere with work, school or the ability to care for dependents. 50% add that they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner. Correct me if I am wrong, but are not these the kind of issues that the Body of Christ can and should solve? Is not solving these issues the point of Ephesians 4:12 and James 1:27?

On April 17, 2009, The National Institutes of Health (NIH) released draft guidelines on Human Stem Cell Research.
Despite mounting evidence that cord blood and adult stem cell research have resulted in numerous therapies for various diseases, and research using human embryos has yet to produce one successful cure or therapy, it appears that the Obama Administration will continue to support research that is ethically questionable and scientifically unsound.

According to the NIH, the draft guidelines are expected to be published in the Federal Register on Friday, April 24, 2009 and will be open for public comment for the 30 days following publication. Every abortion kills a living human being - that is a fact. From the moment of creation, when that human being is but a single cell, all the way to the moment of birth, there is a child that is undergoing a period of remarkable growth and development. Abortion stops that miraculous growth cold and robs the world of all that child would have accomplished. That child is just gone.

NPLTW is organized by American Life League with the intent to increase awareness of abortion and the reality of how many innocent babies are murdered every day.

Primarily, we are concerned with getting people to think of the child as a person from the moment of fertilization. It is much harder to murder a person than it is to "remove a lump of tissues," and it is only when we finally get the nation thinking in those terms that we will be able to make abortion a crime, as it should be.

Our good friends at Focus on the Family have purchased time during this year's Super Bowl broadcast to air a compelling pro-life ad featuring Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and the decision his mother made 23 years ago to give birth to her unborn son when doctors were urging her to abort him.
CBS has come under withering fire from the left for its decision to air this ad. Joy Behar of "The View" even said abortion would have been an appropriate choice since there was no way for Tim's mom to know that he wouldn't grow up to be a "rapist pedophile."

The hypocrisy here is thick. Abortion proponents claim to be all about choice, but they are outraged over an ad that features a woman exercising her right to choose life for her baby son.

Unfortunately, CBS sent a signal this week that it would be willing to accept "responsibly produced" ads that promote abortion or homosexuality. But a message that promotes death or sexual deviancy is not the moral equivalent of a message that celebrates life, and CBS must be urged to reject any such advocacy ads.

CBS needs to hear from all of us who support the decision to air the Tebow ad.

The following is excerpted from an article written by a Catholic priest, Fr. Thomas Eutenauer, that was reprinted in the January 2010 Marian Observer. The numbering of the Commandments may be different but the point is valid for all Christians.

“Abortion's spiritual power is its perfect violation of ALL the commandments. First of all, most abortions are the result of sins against the SIXTH and NINTH Commandments (adultery/fornication/lust). Abortion is certainly a sin against the FIFTH Commandment prohibiting murder. Likewise, it violates the THIRD Commandment because the vast majority of babies are killed on Saturdays (the Sabbath). Abortion is also a reversal of the FOURTH Commandment where the father and mother “dishonor” the child in the most heinous way and curse the holiness of God (SECOND Commandment) which is manifested in the only creature mad in His “image and likeness”. As a false religion, abortion is a violation of the FIRST Commandment forbidding the worship of any other gods but the Lord, and this religion is undoubtedly fed through a highly sophisticated system of falsehoods and deceits (EIGHTH Commandment) which lead women into abortion chambers. Furthermore, abortion literally steals (SEVENTH Commandment) both our personal and national futures by depriving us of children. Finally, the TENTH Commandment (coveting our neighbor's goods) is about the capital sin of greed, the very thing that drives so many abortionists to do the killing work.

Abortion is like a spiritual vortex of sin pulling people into it. Even the Church can be compromised by this evil. Most of the sins listed are sins of commission, but the Church's sins are general sins of 'omission' – the terrible silence...

All of this points out that abortion is a spiritual power that negates God's plan for love, life, and family. It not only destroys bodies but destroys souls, which from the point of view of eternity, represents the devil's greatest masterpiece of evil.” (Spirit & Life newsletter, Vol. 01, Number 78, AUG 2007)

As you are aware, the Federal government is considering health care legislation that will expand the government's involvement in the abortion business. Abortion will no longer be merely a "right"; it will become a "duty" of the rest of us to provide access for the poor who wish to exercise this "right". But it is not a foregone conclusion that this will happen. To use a football analogy, pro-life legislators are making a defensive stand at the "one-yard line". And they need our help. So, please, every day during the remainder of January, please lift up in prayer Bart Stupak and the other pro-life Democrats who are under intense pressure from their party's leadership to "compromise" on abortion in the health care "reform". Also pray for the citizens of Massachusetts who will be electing a Senator to replace the late Ted Kennedy on January 19th. They have an opportunity to reject the rabid pro-abortion platform of the Democratic party.

The rest of us have an opportunity to change the culture in our area in more incremental ways by doing something each day for the unborn. One pro-life writer (William A. Stanmeyer, The Sermon of Bishop Eks) called it being an Impact Player.

He wrote, "An Impact Player is one who makes a difference; ... Every one of us Christians is called to be an Impact Player in the world of faith and prayer. Jesus was the ultimate Impact Player. He trained His Apostles to be the same. Down through the years, godly men and women have been Impact Players - because they prayed. ... My friends, I ask you to become an Impact Player right now. I beg each of you to:

Educate 10 other Christians this month
Give $10.00 each week to a Pro-Life group.
Pray an extra 10 minutes every day.

WASHINGTON – The health care bill proposed by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus on September 16 contains a dangerous provision that creates a financial incentive for Medicare doctors to deny treatments to seniors.

National Right to Life Executive Director, David N. O'Steen, Ph.D, says, "This is the cruelest and most effective way to ensure that doctors are forced to ration care for their senior citizen patients. It takes the telltale fingerprints from the government: instead of bureaucrats directly specifying the treatment denials that will mean death and poorer health for older people, it compels individual doctors to do the dirty work. It is an outrageous way to provide coverage for the uninsured - by taking it away from America's senior citizens."

The provision penalizing doctors establishes that for at least five years, Medicare physicians who authorize treatments for their patients that wind up in the top 10% of per capita cost for a year will lose 5% of their total Medicare reimbursements for that year [see footnote 1 at bottom of release].

This means that all doctors treating older people will constantly be driven to try to order the least expensive tests and treatments for fear that they will be caught in that top 10%. It is noteworthy that this feature operates independently of any considerations of quality, efficiency, or waste - if you authorize enough treatment for your patients, however necessary and appropriate it may be, you are in danger of being one of the 1 in 10 doctors who will be penalized each year. Moreover, it creates a moving target - by definition, there will ALWAYS be a top 10%, no matter how far down the total amount of money spent on Medicare is driven.

“It's like a game of musical chairs, in which there is always one chair less than the number of players – so no matter how fast the contestants run, someone will always be the loser when the music stops,” O’Steen added.

The incentive this creates is purely cost-driven, without any balancing of benefit. It will create a constant sense of uncertainty in doctors, since none can know in advance precisely what the cutoff for a given year will be - resulting in still more pressure to limit treatment and diagnostic tests to the bare minimum.

Pro-lifer killed while witnessing to life

Jim Pouillon, a well-known pro-life activist was shot to death while witnessing to the sanctity of life outside of the Owosso High School in Flint, Michigan . The killing occurred at about 7:30 am, Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 as Pouillon stood outside of the school building. He held a large poster of a baby with the message “Life” written in large letters. The victim, dependent on an oxygen tank and who wore leg braces, was a committed pro-life activist who for many years stood outside of Flint area abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood offices in the hope of turning women away from their abortion decision.

Monica Migliorino Miller, director of Citizens for a Pro-life society, headquartered in Michigan, states:

“Jim died while giving a peaceful witness to the sacredness of human life. He stood outside of the local high school on many occasions holding a sign of a baby to send a message to the students that abortion is the taking of innocent life. Now his life has been taken as he stood in witness against the injustice of abortion. When violence is aimed at those who provide abortion—pro-life leaders are swift to condemn it. We call on the pro-abortion community to condemn this violence against Jim Pouillon. Many have already blamed Jim for his own death because he dared to stand on the street with a pro-life sign. Such a point of view is atrocious and grossly irresponsible.”

As a firm supporter of protecting life, I am deeply concerned by proposed healthcare reform legislation that poses serious risk to the unborn citizens of our nation.

Without abortion explicitly excluded from any government-mandated or government-funded benefits package, abortion will be included. I cannot, and will not, support abortion as a so-called “health benefit.” Furthermore, in legislation as important and future-shaping as healthcare reform, safeguards must be enacted to ensure, beyond any doubt, that abortion is not mandated or subsidized.

Many excellent pro-life movies and documentaries have been recently released covering a wide spectrum of our issues. In fact, the movies seem to be coming so fast I have delayed posting this column several weeks to try to catch the latest. Even last week I read of one more but have to draw the line somewhere.

My star rating is out of four possible. Because of the volume, I am providing thumbnail reviews. Films are listed in alphabetical order.

22 Weeks

Stars: 3-1/2

Released Winter 2009. 28 minutes. Docudrama. Winner 2009 Excellence in Media Angel Award. Synopsis: Tells true story of April 2005 late-term abortion in Orlando, Fla., where baby survived but was denied help by clinic workers despite pleas from mother. Not rated, but I'd consider it PG13 for disturbing scenes. Could have been tightened, just a little. Previously covered by WorldNetDaily.com. $10 online.

Come What May

Stars: 2-1/2

Released Spring 2009. Dove-family approved. 93 minutes. Fiction. Synopsis: Pro-life college law student argues against Roe v. Wade in "moot court" while pro-abortion mother argues against parental notification before the U.S. Supreme Court. Patrick Henry College student production (and school infomercial) – impressive in that regard but not up to Hollywood standards. Good information on Roe v. Released Spring 2008. 56 minutes. Documentary. Synopsis: Details the catastrophic social and economic consequences of the worldwide population decline. Sobering, must see – more than once. $18 online.

Killing Girls

Stars: 4

Released Spring 2009. 52 and 80 minute DVD versions as well as downloadable. Nominated Best Film in two 2009 European film festivals. Documentary. Synopsis: Examines late-term abortions in Russia, where 80 percent of mothers abort. Many young girls purposefully wait until second trimester. Director gained access to large St. Petersburg hospital abortion ward. Does not take pro-life or pro-abortion position. Goes into Russian history to help explain current sad scenario. Lines That Divide: The Great Stem Cell Debate

Stars: 4

Released June 2009. 57 minutes. Documentary. Synopsis: First, I promise this film is not boring, making excellent use of movie clips and celebrity sound bites in combination with graphics and interviews of scientists on both sides of the debate. Covered are not only ethics but women's health as well as media, political and terminology obfuscation. Very current information provided. $20 online.

Synopsis: Revealing, articulately documented analysis of the black eugenics movement that was launched in America with the secession of slavery, now a worldwide onslaught spearheaded by Planned Parenthood. Surprising insights from black leader Jesse Jackson before he sold out. Surprising quotes from pro-black eugenics Republican presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Only warning: Long, although necessarily. May need to take 1-2 intermissions. $10-20 online, depending on quantity ordered.

Synopsis: Gives behind the scenes look at the court decision to euthanize Terri as well as family reflections and publicity surrounding her death. $18 online.

Thine Eyes

Stars: 3

Released April 2009. Documentary of 2009 36th annual March for Life. Narrated by Jennifer O'Neill. Synopsis: Uses six cameras and travels on student buses to and from March to describe its magnitude and impact. Falls short on basics: Alludes to but doesn't describe events surrounding March or the March route itself. Stationary camera doesn't show entire time-elapsed March; frustrating. Still superior to mainstream media coverage, or lack thereof. 50 minutes. Covered by WorldNetDaily's Jack Cashill here and here, who helped produce the film and write the script. $20 online.

Nearly 10 years after a stunning photograph of his tiny hand traveled the world, Samuel Armas has a firm grip on what "The Hand of Hope" means to him.

"When I see that picture, the first thing I think of is how special and lucky I am to have God use me that way," Samuel told FOXNews.com. "I feel very thankful that I was in that picture."

On Aug. 19, 1999, photographer Michael Clancy shot the "Fetal Hand Grasp" — his picture of a 21-week-old fetus grasping a doctor's finger during innovative surgery to correct spina bifida. Nearly four months later, on Dec. 2, Samuel Armas was "born famous."

The photo, which first appeared in USA Today on Sept. 7, 1999, quickly spread across the globe as proof of development in the womb and was later cited during congressional debates on the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, which passed in 2000.

"It's just a miracle picture, a miracle moment," Clancy told FOXNews.com. "It shows the earliest human interaction ever recorded."

Samuel, now 9 and living in Villa Rica, Ga., said the photo likely gave countless "babies their right to live" and forced many others to debate their beliefs on abortion, something he's proud of.

"It's very important to me," Samuel said of the photograph. "A lot of babies would've lost their lives if that didn't happen."

Julie Armas, Samuel's mother, said her eldest son has a "very strong sense of right and wrong" and understands the impact of his unconventional first baby photo.

"He identifies it more in terms of a pro-life message more than anything," she told FOXNews.com. "This photo happened and God used it to show people that this baby in mom's tummy is alive. He's pleased that his photo conveyed that message."

Armas said Samuel will wear lower leg braces for the rest of his life as a result of spina bifida, which occurs when the spine fails to close properly during early pregnancy. He'll also use a wheelchair during long trips, as he did at Great Adventure earlier this week. But the mother of three said Samuel "walks great" and has been lucky enough to avoid some surgeries associated with his condition.

"He's doing extremely well," she told FOXNews.com. "We pray that he continues to be as healthy and able as he has been."

Samuel's condition hasn't slowed his activities as a decorated Cub Scout or in the swimming pool, where he took first place last weekend in a 25-yard backstroke event.

"I love to swim," Samuel said of his typical Saturday activity. "You use your arms a lot and it gives your arms great muscles."

The third-grader also loves science and animals, especially orcas, bald eagles and tigers. And he still collects bugs, something his father, Alex, revealed during a Senate hearing in 2003 to highlight advances in fetal surgery.

"Anything we see, he wants to catch and put it in a jar to watch it," Julie Armas said. "He's a great kid, he really is. He's very gentle; he's very laid-back."

Clancy, who hasn't photographed a surgery since Samuel's, recalled meeting him for just the third time in 2007 during an event for Come Alive Ministries in Atlanta.

"His eyes just lit up because he was born famous because of that picture," Clancy told FOXNews.com. "It was amazing."

Clancy, who was a freelancer for USA Today when he photographed Samuel's fully-formed hand, now works as a motivational speaker at pro-life events. Prior to the picture, Clancy said, he was pro-choice.

"And that's what I'm going to do, keep telling this story," he said. "It can change people's hearts. What started off as an assignment turned into a responsibility to keep telling the story behind it."

A crucial part of the story, Clancy argues, is whether Samuel reached through the 8-inch opening in his mother's uterus and grabbed Dr. Joseph Bruner's hand, or if the doctor manipulated the hand during surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee.

"I could see the uterus shake violently and then this little fist came out of the surgical opening," Clancy recalls. "It came out under its own power. When Dr. Bruner lifted the little hand, I fired my camera and the tighter Samuel squeezed, the harder Dr. Bruner shook his hand."

Bruner, who could not be reached for comment, has told reporters that Samuel and his mother were under anesthesia and could not move. In a Jan. 9, 2000, article in The Tennessean, he said he pulled Samuel's hand out of the uterus, further complicating the debate surrounding the photograph.

But none of that matters to Julie Armas. Samuel continues to thrive, and he is leading the way for his 3-year-old brother, Zachary, who also has spina bifida.

"I don't care, honestly," Julie Armas said. "What I felt the picture showed is that this is a child engaging in some form of interaction. I'm a labor and delivery nurse, so I understand that Samuel was anesthetized to some degree.

"So if he reached out, I don't know. If Dr. Bruner reached out, I don't know. The fact of the matter is it's a child with a hand, with a life, and that's meaningful enough."

The Notre Dame Response: Don't Show Up

This Sunday I will have the privilege of being with many of the pro-life students of Notre Dame University. Seniors who have decided not to take part in their graduation have invited me to lead them in prayer, in an alternate ceremony on another part of the campus, at the very hour that pro-abortion President Obama will speak and be honored by the University.

In standing with these students, I am standing with the true spirit of Notre Dame: a pro-life spirit, in harmony with human reason and Catholic Faith. The scandal that has been generated does not represent what Notre Dame is all about; it represents a radical betrayal of what Notre Dame is all about. I am encouraged by the pro-life activities of so many student groups on this campus – activities that are carried out all year round.

Hundreds of thousands of Catholics, hundreds of priests, and dozens of bishops have called upon Notre Dame to end this scandal by withdrawing its invitation to President Obama. The result of that demand is not in our control. But one final response to this scandal is fully in the control of each graduating senior: don’t show up. Don't participate in an event which will only serve to obscure rather than highlight the Church's pro-life teaching and the true spirit of Notre Dame. Instead, come to the Class of 2009 Vigil for Life. The seniors who do this are manifesting the real meaning of commencement: they are carrying out the witness to truth and service that their hard-earned degrees have prepared them to give in the world.

We shouldn't at all be surprised that many others will fail to understand not only the courageous actions of these students, but also the concern voiced by so many across our nation. After all, the fact that many don't have a problem with Barack Obama sitting in a place of honor at a Catholic Commencement is simply a corollary of the underlying problem that so many don't have a problem with Barack Obama sitting in the White House. Our concern is not just that he is at odds with Catholic teaching. Our concern is that he is at odds with American teaching, and the very meaning of public service – which requires being able to tell the difference between serving the public and killing the public. He should neither be at Notre Dame nor in the White House.

In August 2008, the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) took long-overdue action to address a growing crisis of abortion-related discrimination that could force thousands of conscientious healthcare professionals out of medicine. After several months of public comment on its proposed regulation, in December 2008 HHS finalized a regulation that made clear the protections offered by three civil rights laws passed by Congress with bipartisan support.
The civil rights laws declare that American tax dollars will not fund programs in which healthcare professionals are fired, penalized or otherwise subjected to discrimination because of their ethical stance related to abortion and other morally controversial issues.

However, in March 2009, following protests from abortion special interest groups, the new administration officially declared plans to rescind--get rid of--the conscience-protecting regulation. By the April 9, 2009 deadline for public comments, nearly 50,000 healthcare professionals and patients sent a message to HHS through Freedom2Care to protect conscience rights.

Now it's time to let the President know he must not follow through on his plans to get rid of the conscience protection regulation.

RED Envelopes Flood White House

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A White House mailroom staffer has confirmed that nearly 2.5 million red envelopes have made their way to President Barack Obama to protest his pro-abortion record. The staff member says the campaign is one of the largest efforts he can recall in his 35 years working at the White House.

The mailroom worker, identified in a WorldNetDaily interview as Steve, helps oversee the mail destined for the president.

Asked if he had seen a deluge of red envelopes in recent weeks, Steve responded: "Uh, yes. Believe me, they made it here."

"Quite frankly, there was definitely a deluge of mail coming through," he laughed. "I had to handle them all."

Though President Obama is in Europe on a foreign trip, the White House worker said the Obama administration has noticed the flood of red envelopes against abortion.

"I've been here 35 years, so I've seen presidents come and go," he told WND. "This campaign ranks up there with the big ones."

Inspired during a prayer, Massachusetts resident Christ Otto came up with the idea of sending red envelopes to President Barack Obama to protest his pro-abortion policies.

As he told LifeNews.com back in February, what started out as an email request to 120 of his ministry friends and supporters turned into a nationwide phenomenon that saw others ask pro-life advocates to coordinate sending their red envelopes to Obama this week.

"We are trying to change the president's heart," Otto says. "This is a message to a man that God hears the cry of innocent blood. It is not a political stunt, although I hope it changes policy in Washington."

"If the capital is flooded with so many letters that no one can deny it, I am hoping the image will be burned into Barack Obama's mind that this is about human blood, and that he lies awake at night until he cannot resist doing something about it," he continued.

A Texas man named Brian Potter set March 31 as the date for sending the red envelopes and that coordination appeared evident in the comments from the White House mailroom employee.

Several web sites have been set up in support of the project and the people who have responded saying they sent or will send envelopes has reached over 1.5 million, though not everyone has registered with the web sites.

"For me, this has been a living parable of my philosophy of life and ministry, : 'Listen to the Lord, and do what He tells you,'" Otto tells LifeNews.com. "I was not expecting such a dramatic outcome."

Some of you may have seen the major news story of the private plane that crashed into a Montana cemetery, killing 7 children and 7 adults. But what the news sources fail to mention is... the [cemetery] contains... the Tomb of the Unborn... erected as a dedication to all babies who have died because of abortion. What else is the mainstream news not telling you? The family who died in the crash near the location of the abortion victim's memorial, is the family of Irving 'Bud' Feldkamp, owner of the largest for-profit abortion chain in the nation...
Family Planning Associates was purchased 4 years ago by... Feldkamp... owner of Allcare and Hospitality Dental Associates and CEO of Glen Helen Raceway Park in San Bernardino. The 17 CA Family Planning clinics perform more abortions in the state than any other abortion provider - Planned Parenthood included - and they perform abortions through the first 5 months of pregnancy. Although Feldkamp is not an abortionist, he reaps profits of blood money from the tens of thousands of babies that are killed through abortions performed every year at the clinics he owns. His business in the abortion industry was what enabled him to afford the private plane that was carrying his family to their week-long vacation at The Yellowstone Club, a millionaires-only ski resort. The plane went down on Sunday, killing 2 of Feldkamp's daughters, 2 sons-in-law and 5 grandchildren along with the pilot and 4 family friends....The cause of the crash is a mystery. The pilot, who was a former military flier who logged over 2k miles, gave no indication to air traffic controllers that the aircraft was experiencing difficulty when he asked to divert to an airport in Butte. Witnesses report that the plane suddenly nosedived toward the ground with no apparent signs of a struggle. There was neither a cockpit voice recorder nor a flight data recorder onboard, and no radar clues into the plane's final moments because the Butte airport is not equipped with a radar facility. Some speculate that the crash was due to ice on the wings, but this particular plane model has been tested for icy weather and experts have stated that ice being the cause is unlikely. In my time working for Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, I helped organize and conduct a weekly campaign where youth activists stood outside of Feldkamp's mini-mansion in Redlands holding fetal development signs and raising community awareness regarding Feldkamp's dealings in child murder for profit. Every Thursday afternoon we called upon Bud and his wife Pam to repent, seek God's blessing and separate themselves from the practice of child killing. We warned him, for his children's sake, to wash his hands of the innocent blood he assisted in spilling because, as Scripture warns, if "you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you." (Ezekiel 35:6) A news source states that Bud Feldkamp visited the site of the crash with his wife and their 2 surviving children on Monday. As they stood near the twisted and charred debris talking with investigators, light snow fell on the tarps that covered the remains of their children.

I don't want to turn this tragic event into some creepy spiritual "I told you so" moment, but I think of the time spent outside of Feldkamp's - Pam Feldkamp laughing at the fetal development signs, Bud Feldkamp trying not to make eye contact as he got into his car with a small child in tow - and I think of the haunting words, "Think of your children." I wonder if those words were haunting Feldkamp as well as he stood in the snow among the remains of loved ones, just feet from the Tomb of the Unborn? I only hope and pray that in the face of this tragedy, Feldkamp recognizes his need for repentance and reformation. I pray that God will use this unfortunate catastrophe to soften the hearts of Bud and Pam and that they will draw close to the Lord and wash their hands of the blood of thousands of innocent children, each as precious and irreplaceable as their own. "I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then." (Deut. 30:19)
This is hard to think about. Gingi's right. No MSM report included that particular business detail. An Associated Press article did include this, however:
Feldkamp's family has gone through tragedy before. Two years ago, his 10-month-old grandson, Chase, died after he was found to have slipped between a mattress and the edge of a bed during a nap. The child was taken to a hospital and was eventually taken off life support.

This afternoon a friend was praying about a number of things, and her mind began to wander. She was deeply distressed at the symbolic actions that President Obama took as he began his presidency. Namely, that he signed executive orders releasing funds to pay for abortions,permission to fund human stem cell research, and federal funding for contraception. She has been involved in the pro-life movement for nearly 20 years, and it pained her heart and so many of us to see a man and a political party committed to the shedding of innocent blood. This man, and this party lead our country, but they do not represent me or the 54% of Americans who believe that abortion is wrong and should no longer be legal.

As she was praying, she believed that God gave her an interesting idea. Out in the garage she had a box of red envelopes. Like the powerful image of the red LIFE tape, an empty red envelope will send a message to Barack Obama that there is moral outrage in this country over this issue. It will be quiet, but clear.

Here is what we all could do:

Get a red envelope. (You can buy them at Kinkos, or at party supply stores.)

On the front, address it to:

On the back, write the following message.

This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world.

Responsibility begins with conception.

Put it in the mail, and send it. Then forward this email to every one of your friends who you think would send one too. I wish we could send 50 million red envelopes, one for every child who died before having a a chance to live. Maybe it will change the heart of the president.

Pennsylvania Program Sets Record - 19,747 women provided pregnancy and parenting support services last year.

Harrisburg, PA - January 14, 2009. Real Alternatives, statewide administrator for the award winning Pennsylvania Alternative to Abortion Services Program, reports that in fiscal year 2007 -2008 a record 19,747 women were provided comprehensive counseling, mentoring, and support throughout their nine (9) months of pregnancy and twelve (12) months after the birth of their baby. In fiscal year 2007-2008 the program received its highest funding of $6.5 million per year by the Commonwealth's Department of Public Welfare. The program's administrative cost ratio is less than 8.5%

"We have seen a steady decrease in annual abortions since the start of the program 13 years ago. To date, the citizens of Pennsylvania have placed $59 million of tax payer funds to provide pregnancy and parenting support services to 150,000 women experiencing an unplanned or crisis pregnancy. We are striving for the day when no woman in the Commonwealth feels that she must have an abortion - that is what the program is about," said Kevin I. Bagatta, Esquire, Real Alternatives President & CEO.

In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, 118 Real Alternatives-funded pregnancy support centers, Catholic Charities, social service agencies, maternity homes, and adoption agencies throughout the Commonwealth provided services to 19,747 women at 83,263 visits. There is a center within an hour of every woman in Pennsylvania.

An alternative to abortion is not a pamphlet, it is another person....it is one woman seeing another woman in crisis and loving her and supporting her like she is her own daughter. Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church

The following is a letter that was sent to Barack Obama regarding the
so-called Freedom of Choice Act. I assume that no one in Washington
will bother to read it, so I post it for the consideration of all who
might be interested.

Dear Mr. Obama,

It is my solemn duty as a human being, as a Christian, and as an
American citizen to write to you and urge you not to sign the
so-called Freedom of Choice Act. I firmly believe that this
legislation is utterly and completely immoral, un-American,
unconstitutional, and entirely inhuman. It is my understanding that
you intend to sign this bill into law if passed by Congress. This
saddens me greatly and I firmly believe that this bill, if passed,
will plunge our great nation further and further into the darkness of
evil and injustice. If a child in the womb is not safe, then who is?
If a human baby possesses no legal rights and protections, then who
does?

I understand that you once said that the point at which human life
begins is above your pay-grade. From this I am led to believe one of
three things: 1) you deliberately said this to avoid controversy but
you do not really believe it, 2) you said this without thinking, 3) or
you actually believe that the point at which human life begins is
uncertain and above your pay-grade. Charity demands that I assume
that your statement in this regard is an honest albeit unfortunate
expression of your belief. The other alternatives reflect
characteristics that I hope a sitting president would not possess,
those being a calculating disingenuousness and a propensity to act and
speak without thinking.

If you truly believe that the point where human life begins is above
your pay-grade, then what are the logical ramifications of this
belief? Well, if you really believe that an unborn child may or may
not be a human being, is it not logical, prudent, and necessary to
presume that the unborn child is indeed a human being? One would hope
that a human baby deserves such a presumption. After all, why do we
insist that our soldiers be morally certain that they are shooting at
enemy combatants and not at innocent civilians? Why do we insist that
our police officers refrain from shooting at a violent criminal if
there is a possibility of hitting an innocent bystander? Without a
doubt, when we have soldiers or policemen who do not use deadly force
prudently, we usually remove them from duty and even bring them to
justice if the circumstances warrant.

But the Freedom of Choice Act removes all restraints on terminating
the lives of babies who you think, if you are being honest, may or may
not be human beings. Are you willing to let our law enforcement
officers and soldiers use deadly force indiscriminately with no
restraints or ramifications for their actions? One hopes not, but if
you actually believe that the status of an unborn child is really
uncertain, then the Freedom of Choice Act is morally indistinguishable
from removing any and all restrictions on the use of deadly force in
our military and law enforcement agencies.

But we are not really talking about mere indiscriminate use of deadly
force, but the unjust and immoral use of deadly force. We would not
accept a soldier deliberately shooting at someone on the presumption
that he might be an enemy soldier. We would not tolerate a police
officer who deliberately shoots someone on the presumption that he
might be a dangerous felon. How is this different than tearing the
body of a baby limb-from-limb on the presumption that she might not be
a human being? So, Mr. Obama, if you are truly uncertain as to when
human life begins, it seems pretty apparent that you must choose to
protect the baby that you think might be human instead of killing her
on the mere presumption that she may not yet be human.

Also, please consider that our legal system presumes innocence and
tolerates the possibility of letting the guilty go unpunished in lieu
of the possibility of punishing the innocent. Can we not afford the
same presumption of human life for the unborn lest we tolerate the
murder of innocent human beings? Do we deliberately send anyone to
jail unless there is no shadow of doubt regarding their guilt? Are we
not more careful when exercising the grave responsibility of capital
punishment, allowing appeal after appeal to preclude the execution of
someone who might be innocent? It seems that abortion is nothing
other than the summary execution of a baby whose only 'crime' is to be
inconvenient or unplanned. This is nothing less than cruel and
unusual punishment for being in the wrong womb at the wrong time.

Likewise, if we look at our constitutionally guaranteed rights such as
the freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, the right to bear arms,
etc. we recognize that these explicitly enumerated rights can be
restricted without denying the basic constitutional right itself. If
the Brady Law can insist on a background check and a waiting period to
purchase a firearm, how can we accept these restrictions upon a
constitutionally guaranteed right but the FOCA would overturn all laws
stipulating parental consent for an abortion involving a minor or a
waiting period for abortion especially since abortion is not an
enumerated right in our Constitution? If we accept that limits can
legally be placed on free speech, what is the justification for
denying any limits placed on abortion, which again is nowhere to be
found as an enumerated right in our Constitution? If we can accept
that conducting a peaceful public demonstration can require a permit,
a reasonable and legal limitation on the exercise of both the rights
of free assembly and of free speech, in what way does abortion deserve
unfettered exercise above and beyond our actual constitutional rights?
Mr. Obama, it is absolutely absurd, disproportionate, and
unacceptable that the FOCA would elevate abortion above and beyond
every enumerated constitutional right.

But as a priest, as a shepherd of souls, I must also insist that you
consider the moral aspects of abortion in general and of the FOCA in
particular. Indeed, you will be judged on your actions personally and
with respect to how you have used the power and authority of your
office. You have been entrusted with a sacred duty and you will have
to answer for how you have exercised that power and authority.
Indeed, Jesus insists that "from everyone who has been given much,
much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with
much, much more will be asked" Lk 12:48. Is there a secular office
higher than the one you have assumed? You have been given not just
much, but the most. Is the FOCA the "much more [that] will be asked"
of your administration, or is God perhaps asking you for something
else? What would Jesus expect of you, the same Jesus Who said "Let
the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the
Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these" Mt 19:14. Does the FOCA,
which removes anything that hinders abortion, allow for little babies
to come to Jesus unhindered? Yes, the 'kingdom' of the United States
has been entrusted to your care, but please remember that the little
babies are first and foremost citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven.

And I must direct your attention to Matthew 25:31-46. Here Jesus
insists that "Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these
least brothers of mine, you did for Me" Mt 25:40. How do you think
Jesus will respond to someone who pulls Him apart limb-from-limb?
Please remember that Jesus Himself was once an embryo, once a
blastocyst, once a fetus, or whatever dehumanizing term you wish to
choose for an unborn baby. Having been an unborn baby, is it
conceivable that Jesus would not particularly identify Himself with
these least of His brothers and sisters?

Finally, I ask you to consider whose interests are served by the FOCA?
Is it Jesus' interests, or someone else's? Perhaps a passage from
Jeremiah will help clarify this for you: "They built high places to
Baal in the Valley of Ben-hinnom, and immolated their sons and
daughters to Molech, bringing sin upon Judah; this I never commanded
them, nor did it even enter my mind that they should practice such
abominations" Jer 32:35. I can hardly see that the interests of this
country, the interests of women, the interests of children, and most
importantly, the interests of Jesus are served by the FOCA. But if
you sign the FOCA into law, it would seem that you are serving Molech
and bringing more sin upon this nation. With all due respect, please
do not sign this abomination into law, if not for the sake of the
salvation of your own soul, for the lives of the little children who
will be unjustly sacrificed on the altar of false freedom.

Mobilize women who regret their abortions

Ten days to go, and we will again mobilize women who regret their abortions and men who facilitated abortions. They will stand in front of the vast crowd in Washington DC gathered for the March for Life. They will stand publicly, holding signs saying “I Regret My Abortion” and “I Regret Lost Fatherhood.”

They will be the voice that greets the new Presidential Administration and the new Congress!

Would you please help us get as many such people together as possible? There are two ways you can do that.

1. Invite anyone you know who has lost a child to abortion to join the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. This does not mean they have to “go public.” It simply means that they let themselves be counted as someone who regrets the so-called “choice” of abortion.

Abuse victims often use the phrase "Silent No More" to indicate their response to being victimized. It may be surprising to some in our society that as our nation reaches another anniversary of the abortion decisions Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs. Bolton, that women from coast to coast are uniting under the banner of "Silent No More" because they have had abortions.

Not illegal "back alley" abortions, but abortions in legal “clinics.”

These women do not consider themselves freed, empowered, or ennobled because of their abortion. Rather, they testify that they were enslaved, weakened, and wounded. They were, in short, given a false promise, which is the essence of all temptation. They were told that this "procedure" would solve their problems. Instead, it brought more problems than they care to think about, namely, the whole range of physical and psychological wounds often described by the term "post-abortion syndrome."

What are these women doing to express their message? In Washington and in cities across the country, they will gather publicly at rallies and prayer events and hold signs that say, "I Regret My Abortion." The Washington gathering will, in fact, be at the steps of the Supreme Court, on the very date, January 22, that abortion was legalized.

This campaign is organized worldwide by Priests for Life and Anglicans for Life, and is the largest mobilization ever of women and men who have lost children to abortion. Along with public gatherings, they speak in legislative assemblies, in the media, and in Churches.

But why do this? If abortion is so painful, some will ask, why make a public display out of one's experience?

The answer is understood only if one knows how shameful and painful the silence of abortion is. The grief that follows abortion is, in the words of Dr. Theresa Burke, a "forbidden grief." The grief is not acknowledged; it is not validated. People don't send sympathy cards or talk about it openly. In fact, those who grieve their child killed by abortion are often made to feel silly for feeling sad. After all, they are told by society that they exercised a choice that solved a problem. Why grieve over that?

Such questions, of course, reveal a complete blindness to the fact that killing one's child hurts, and leaves a wound that Mom or Dad does not ever forget.

These men and women are tired of having pro-choice advocates pretend to speak for them. They want to tell the world, in their own words, that what is too easily celebrated as a "choice" and a "right" is in fact a painful burden.

Not every post-abortive person has found enough healing to be able to participate in these public rallies or hold these signs. But the participants in the Silent No More Awareness Campaign pray that their presence will assist their sisters on the road to healing, and give them some measure of comfort to know that their grief is no longer forbidden.

The Turners' spiritual scan shows the face of Jesus hovering above their baby in the womb.
After seven months of a difficult pregnancy, Laura Turner looked anxiously at the latest ultrasound picture of her unborn son.

She was reassured to see not just the baby sucking his thumb - but what she believes is an image of Jesus watching over him.
The 20-year-old nursery nurse was so amazed that she decided to give her son the Biblical name Joshua.
'I just couldn't believe my eyes,' she said at her home in Studley, Warwickshire. 'My partner and I had already been for four or five scans because my baby has a cleft lip, and it was another routine
check-up to make sure that everything was okay.
'We had already found out that we were expecting a boy at an earlier scan so when we went to the hospital we weren't anticipating any more surprises. How wrong we were.
'It wasn't until we got home and a friend pointed out that it looked like there was someone else in the picture with our baby that we realised.
'I nearly fainted. We were just happy that we had managed to get a picture of Joshua sucking his thumb.
'To see what looks like Jesus in a shroud was unbelievable. It still
hasn't sunk in. It's kind of spooky but also beautiful and we will always treasure it.'
Miss Turner said she and her partner David Meikle, a 31-year-old removals man, had endured weeks of uncertainty after doctors told them that the baby, their first, might be born with Down's syndrome.
'The pregnancy has been fairly difficult so to see a likeness of Jesus in the picture gives me a lot of comfort.
'It's as if someone is watching over Joshua. It's helped make us feel more at ease and although I'm not very religious, seeing the picture does reassure me that things are going to turn out okay and that Joshua will be our little miracle.'

If we think of hell, we might imagine screams coming out of the flames, or the sinister laughter of the devil. But the sound I recently heard coming from there was that of applause.

What I heard was an audiotape of Dr. Martin Haskell giving a presentation at the 16th Annual Meeting of the National Abortion Federation Conference in 1992 in San Diego. It was a gathering of abortionists -- men and women who make their living by killing babies. Haskell was describing to his audience how to do a partial-birth abortion. Listen to his words about how this procedure takes place:

“The surgeon then introduces large grasping forceps … through the vaginal and cervical canal … He moves the tip of the instrument carefully towards the fetal lower extremities -- and pulls the extremity into the vagina …The surgeon then uses his fingers to deliver the opposite lower extremity, then the torso, the shoulders, and the upper extremities. The skull lodges in the internal os. The fetus is oriented … spine up … The surgeon then takes a pair of blunt curved Metzenbaum scissors in the right hand. … the surgeon then forces the scissors into the base of the skull--spreads the scissors to enlarge the opening. The surgeon--surgeon then introduces a suction catheter into this hole and evacuates the skull contents.”

Haskell, having described these brutal details, shows his audience a video of himself doing one of these procedures. And at the end of the video, after the sound of the suction machine taking the brains out of the baby’s head, the audience applauds.

That, my friends, is applause from hell.

We often speak about “the fires of hell.” It is also true, however, to say that hell is very cold. It is the absence of all conscience, of all pity, of all love. That kind of hell is reflected on earth when a group of human beings can sit around a video machine, watch someone deliberately kill a baby, and then applaud. That’s the heart and soul of the abortion industry. That’s the heart and soul of “pro-choice.”

It’s the same chilling attitude of which Dr. Bernard Nathanson repented. He writes about how he felt after he killed his own child by abortion. “I swear to you that I had no feelings aside from the sense of accomplishment, the pride of expertise. On inspecting the contents of the bag I felt only the satisfaction of knowing that I had done a thorough job” (The Hand of God, p.60).

I am convinced that the first and overall most effective way to fight abortion is to expose it. People need to hear descriptions of the procedure, see what it looks like, and get a glimpse into the utter corruption of the abortion industry. Saint Paul tells the Ephesians, “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them” (Eph. 5:11). Let’s put Paul’s words into practice and spread the information in this column!

As I was going through news stories contemplating items to discuss for the next radio show I came across "Protesting the Protesters", an awful story of how politicians want to stifle the free speech rights of pro-lifers outside of abortion facilities. You see, most ardent abortion advocates want you to believe that pro-lifers who counsel pregnant moms outside of abortion facilities are mean-spirited, harass, bully, intimidate, yell and scream. Although I have witnessed one or two of these well-meaning but far from effective pro-life activists outside of abortion facilities, in most cases the sidewalk counselors I meet are some of the most compassionate, caring individuals you will ever meet.

What you will gather from the story though is its not the pregnant moms who oppose sidewalk counselors from approaching them, it's the abortion facility workers and volunteers as well as the hardcore abortion advocates. Why? An effective sidewalk counselor will convince the pregnant mom of the truth, that abortion not only will kill her baby but cause her emotional, physical and even spiritual trauma in the days, weeks and years to come. This is called a "save." A save is what it is – a baby's life spared from death and his/her mom spared the trauma associated with abortion. This article interviewed a young man, Brian Stong who happened to record his 16th save that morning. What a testimony of how a young person can have such a great impact in this world. Praise God for Brian!

Unfortunately this may be a tactic you will see in many cities across America – bills passed so 3rd parties (abortion facility workers, volunteers and activists) can press charges against sidewalk counselors with little or no proof, therefore possibly intimidating pro-lifers from praying at abortion facilities and offering pregnant, scared moms an alternative to abortion. This will then possibly lower the number of "saves" (babies alive, moms spared the trauma).

While we are waiting for the outcome of this bill keep New York City Council Speaker Ms. Quinn in your prayers and prayerfully consider contacting her and urging her not to stifle free speech while setting a precedent that could be horrific for pro-lifers across the country. The Catholic-affiliated University of San Fracisco did a good thing by acknowledging they made a mistake when it was revealed that their student health insurance plan included abortions.

A new procedure has been developed for testing preborn babies for Down's Syndrome. This test does not have the high-risk of miscarriage that the current test, amniocentesis, has, but because the vast majority of babies with Down's Syndrome are aborted, this test may increase that abortion rate to above the 90% it currently is at.

A DOCTOR'S WISDOM
A worried woman went to her gynecologist and
said:

'Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help! My baby
is not even 1 yr. old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close
together.'

So the doctor said: 'Ok, and what do you want me to do?'

She said: 'I want you to end my pregnancy, and I'm counting on your
help with this.'

The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady:
'I think I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous
for you too.'

She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.

Then he continued: 'You see, in order for you not to have to take care of 2
babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms. This way, you
could rest some before the other one is born. If we're going to kill one of
them, it doesn't matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your
body if you chose the one in your arms.

The lady was horrified and said: 'No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime
to kill a child!

'I agree', the doctor replied. 'But you seemed to be ok with it, so
I thought maybe that was the best solution.

The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point.

He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's
already been born and one that's still in the womb. The crime is the same!

If You Despair, Obama Really Wins
Post Election Comment from Monica Migliorino Miller, Dir. of CPS
Obama's election presents us with an opportunity for deep holiness.

With the election of Obama our nation has entered a moral dark night. As pro-lifers, as Catholics, as lovers of Jesus what is most disturbing are two things that Obama said and did that I believe reveal the darkness of his own moral character. First-- he refused to recognize the humanity of a human being born alive from a botched abortion. He actually refused to support a law that would have provided medical assistance to such persons-- but of course--that's just it! To Obama, even though born and out of the womb-- these tiny infants are still not persons to him and he believes that medical treatment should be withheld from them and they should be allowed to die! That's evil!
Secondly--Obama made the statement--completely unscripted, and completely honest: "If my teenage daughters were ever to become pregnant, I would want them to have abortions rather than be punished with a baby." Yes, he said that! And that's evil!
Yet--such a man who sees a baby as a punishment has been elected president. People actually voted for this guy! Ok yes, this is the bad news and the pro-life movement is in for one heck of a ride! But it's not all bad--that's right--it's not all bad.
This is an opportunity for the Catholic Church to get its act together--to find her prophetic voice and to be a witness against this Culture of Death in a
no-compromise mode.

A few days ago I began to accept that Obama was probably going to win. I had to believe that something good would come of it. And here it is: Obama's election presents us with an opportunity for deep holiness. We are called to give ourselves to Jesus in an even more pure and profound way. We are called to be super disciples--to love Jesus more deeply and work for His kingdom with more energy and sense of mission. That's it!!
This is an opportunity for the Catholic Church to get its act together--to find her prophetic voice and to be a witness against this Culture of Death in a no-compromise mode. That's it. As John Paul II said, "Do not be afraid! Do not be afraid!”
In January (date to be announced) Citizens for a Pro-life Society will hold a special meeting of pro-life leaders to discuss strategy to move the pro-life efforts forward in a moral dark night--and to discuss ways that we can make the Church be that prophetic voice in the moral dark night that God wants her to be. I personally want to thank all of you who have worked so hard to defeat Obama. I know what it has cost you and I know the great sadness that you feel today. But God is with us--never despair. If we despair, Obama really wins!

We, the citizens of UN member states, in this year of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted and proclaimed by the UN General Assembly resolution 217 A (III) of 10 December 1948,

Recalling that:

The Universal Declaration is a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all Nations,

Bearing in mind that:

Human rights, dignity, freedom, equality, solidarity and justice constitute the spiritual and moral patrimony on which the union of Nations is based,

Stress that:

Proper consideration must be given to

1. The right to life of every human being, from conception to natural death, each child having the right to be conceived, born and educated within the family, based on marriage between a woman and a man, the family being the natural and fundamental group unit of society,

2. The right of every child to be educated by his or her parents, who have a prior and fundamental right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children.

Therefore, we call upon:

All governments to interpret the Universal Declaration of Human Rights properly such that:

Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person (Article 3)

Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family (Article 16).

The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State (Article 16).

Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance (Article 25).

Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children (Article 26).

Getting Shakened Awake by The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

I'm in the Phoenix airport and the Wi-Fi here is uneven (- which I find disconcertingly cheeky. Don't they know that Obama has been elected and has ushered in a new era of complete transformation of hope and change?!), but I wanted to send a heads-up for the haunting and eerily relevant movie now in theaters, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

The film is being distributed by Miramax and was co-produced by BBC Films. It is worthy of your time and I think should be a must see for teenagers and perhaps junior high students depending on their maturity.

I generally have a bias against Holocaust films. They have to work very hard to win my recommendation because so many of them seem to just rehash the same issues over and over again. I also tend to smart against the notion that the Nazis were the worst thing to happen in the 20th Century. It seems to me the crimes of the Gulag and Mao and Fidel and the other leftist dictators have been arguably worse. They certainly lasted longer. But anyway, be assured that you haven't seen THIS Holocaust movie before. While we have seen the German perspective, we haven't seen it from this angle.

Dramatically in "the eyes of a child" genre, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is all about the inevitable personal toll that an individual will have to pay for dabbling with evil. Set in a German family in WWII, it provides a fly on the wall look at a family just like yours - two cute kids who are the center of their parents' world, a mother who is proudly supportive of her husband who has just gotten a promotion, a little bit of tension with the mother-in-law who seems stuck in disapproval of the new ways, and a young husband and father who is just trying to earn a living in the new Germany. The thing is, he just happens to be an SS officer who has been promoted to be commandant of a death camp.

The eight year old son, Bruno, provides the point of view of the film, and he does the confusion and boredom with adult politics and inconsistency very well. The inconsistency here is in the parents who are raising their two children to be delightful, well-rounded good people....all the while trying to keep the uncomfortable truth of the death camp at bay.

The two highlights of the film are the haunting score by the uber-talented James Horner, and the key performance of the mother of the family, played by Vera Farmiga. Farmiga makes her character so wonderfully sympathetic to us and, then, slowly unravels before our eyes. This mother is not the stero-typical robotic and barbaric "Goebbel's Wife" we have seen time and time again in the Holocaust genre. This is a human being who finds herself being swept along in the weird and increasingly dark momentum of her people's history. She isn't sure how it happened. She never signed on for it all, but by the time she takes action to extract herself and her children, it may be too late.

I would love to see Farmiga get an Oscar nod for her work here. So far, her performance is the most notable, and compelling one I have seen this year, with the possible exception of Richard Jenkins' great job in The Visitor.

There is a little bit of controversy about this film. Critics seem to be annoyed that it derives its central tension from the threat to one little German boy, as opposed to the millions of Jews. This criticism seems to me to be idiotic. Every movie derives its power by foregrounding the problems of one or two little people. In this case, the point of the film is to point a finger of condemnation at the German grown-ups here, who thought they could "handle" the evil they were dabbling in. In the end, it becomes a snowball rolling down hill that has the same effect as in the life of the Pharoah Ramsees when he perpetrated evil on the Hebrew people. If you do evil, it will consume you...or at least your children.

The film is not at all graphic, but the end is very disturbing. The people sat in the theater silent during the credits. The ladies behind me were wiping away tears. But I think everybody needs to see it. ESPECIALLY - this week when so many Christians have seen their way to compromising with the greatest social evil of our day - abortion. Our people voted to overlook a little thing like the slaughter of the unborn, because of other considerations like economic prosperity, climate change and the desire to have all the other nations in the world like us again. This kind of a choice gets a very dramatic and cautionary treatment in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

I walked out of the theater ashamed of my country, and for the first time in any Holocaust movie, seeing in the German people not a scapegoat of history, but people just like us Americans in 2008. Only we will get judged harsher then they will, eh? Because we had their mistakes to study. My thought as I drove away in my car was, "The only real lesson of history is that people never learn from it."

Obama has vowed to eliminate all restrictions After he passes the FOCA act, I pray it is not YOUR daughter that gets taken to get an abortion without YOUR consent.

Washington, D.C. - Film star and boy-band idol Eduardo Verastegui released a new Internet video that he was "inspired" to make after learning of Barack Obama's track record on abortion.
In the video, Eduardo explains that more than 1 million babies are aborted in America each year, and that more than 650 Latino babies are aborted each day. Eduardo then reveals Obama's startling history on abortion - opposing bans on partial birth abortion, opposing the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, and opposing parental involvement when a minor girl is abused; he supports financing abortion with tax dollars.
The video, in Spanish and English, is expected to ricochet throughout the Americas.
Eduardo states in the video, "If a president is not willing to defend the most innocent of his own country, the babies in their mother's wombs, then my question is this, who is he willing to defend? That's what inspired me to put this video together."
In a recent interview, Eduardo said, "More than 200,000 Latino babies are killed by abortion each year in the USA. This holocaust must end."
The Latin heartthrob made the video available for free to fans and curious onlookers by placing it on the Internet. The goal is to reach viewers throughout the Americas.
The star and producer of the award-winning hit movie Bella, Eduardo, 34, became famous singing in the popular Latino band "KAIRO" and acting in "Telenovelas" (Latin-American soap operas). He was recently voted by People Magazine en Español as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the world. His movie, BELLA, won the 2006 Toronto Film Festival People's Choice Award.

If Barack Obama wins the election next week:
Any hope for a U.S. Supreme Court majority opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade will be lost.
The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) will be signed into law eliminating 35 years of laws that have restricted and regulated the practice of abortion.
He would very likely offer legislation to eliminate the Hyde Amendment which protects taxpaying citizens from being forced to pay for abortions through Medicaid.
Abortion will be covered in his proposed national health care plan.
The Mexico City Policy, which bars taxpayer funding of organizations that perform or promote abortions in foreign countries, would be eliminated.
Funding for the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) would be restored, allowing millions of taxpayer dollars for abortions and forced sterilizations in Third World countries, including China with its coercive "one child" policy.
The Born Alive Infants Protection Act and the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act would be overturned.
Current restrictions on the performance of abortions on military bases would be removed.
What you can do: pray, talk to others and VOTE!

During the past 35 years, the pro-life movement has made some real progress--progress that pro-lifers could at times do a better job of advertising. During the 1990s more states enacted parental-involvement laws, waiting periods, and informed-consent laws. More importantly, the number of abortions has fallen in 12 out of the past 14 years and the total number of abortions has declined by 21 percent since 1990. These gains are largely due to pro-life political victories at the federal level in the 1980s and at the state level in the 1990s, both of which have made it easier to pass pro-life legislation. Furthermore, since the next President may have the opportunity to nominate as many as four justices to the Supreme Court, the right-to-life movement would be very well advised to stay the course in 2008.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Planned Parenthood broke ground Wednesday on a new regional headquarters in northeast Portland, and more than 150 protesters turned out with signs to crash the party.
Protesters say the new 40,000 square foot building, to be constructed near the intersection of Northeast Beech Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, should not be built because it will offer abortion services.
They came from a group of religious organizations around the Portland area.
Organizers of the protest gathered hundreds of signatures to try to get the Portland Development Commission to deny the application to build on the site, which is on a piece of city-owned property.
Protesters said bringing abortion services to the neighborhood is a way of targeting the poor and African Americans. It also promotes a promiscuous lifestyle among young people, they said.
"We do not want Planned Parenthood building a facility where they are going to kill unborn babies in this town because … those babies are all innocent human beings," said protester Christina Degoede. "That's not acceptable for us."
But Planned Parenthood officials say they are building there to help all people who need preventative health care services.
"Abortion is a really small percentage of what we do, less than 5 percent," said Liz Delapoer of Planned Parenthood. "Ninety-five percent of our services focus on preventative health care."
Planned Parenthood officials said they help 60,000 people a year in the northwest.
The new facility would be one of the biggest in the United States.
Planned Parenthood officials have said in the past that the organization supplies the so-called abortion pill to about 17 people per month in its current clinic in northeast Portland.
The new clinic is expected to open in early 2010.
And protesters say they will return to the site frequently.
